Proper Thrust Bearing Orientation

I am getting the 35 back together. Soon it will be time to get the green paint out. The thrust bearings at the bottom of the front spindles look a bit like small clutch release bearings – which side goes up? February 28, 2015.

Many of these bearings are marked top, indicating the position they should be installed. I recall installing them with the side that is enclosed at the top and the side that is open at the bottom. I felt that water and dirt would not be as likely to be trapped in the bearing that way. The Ferguson shop manual does not specify the bearing position.
