Replacing F-40 Cross-Shaft Bushings and O-Rings

After replacing the Bushings, and O-Rings on my F-40 Cross-Shaft, I wonder if this service can be done without removing the lift cover?  July 3, 2016.

You may be able to remove the bushings that way, but I never have. The lift shaft is quite heavy, and may drop down enough that it would be difficult to get it started in the hole in the bushing. The splines on the ends of the shaft are fragile, and using the shaft as a battering ram to remove the bearing is not a good idea.
